Encyclopedia of Language and Education

Welcome to the homepage of Encyclopedia of Language and Education, a comprehensive reference work from Springer. It highlights the increasingly salient issues of Language Socialization and Language Ecology in relation to education.

The Encyclopedia contains comprehensive entries written by experts across multiple disciplines. Like no other reference, the Encyclopedia provides authoritative and extensive coverage of assessment and intervention within a single source. The simple-to-use A-to-Z format was chosen to provide easy access to relevant information in the rapidly evolving field. It also includes scholarly contributions from non-English speaking and non-western parts of the world, in part facilitated by the increasing ease of global communication via the internet over the past 10 years. These voices are integrated more fully into the whole, rather than they being treated as special cases or international perspectives in separate sections, which in some sense marginalize and make them "other."
