Introduction
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is one of the largest international nongovernmental organizations with outreach in 16 countries. The organization with more than 3,000 staff is now busy doing profitable and nonprofit activities from North to South.
Brief History
The AKF was founded in 1967 in Geneva by the Prince Karim "Aga Khan" to work for the development of marginalized areas in the developing world. As part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), AKF is a "private, not-for-profit, non-denominational, development agency" (AKF, 2008), and due to the visionary chairpersonship, the Foundation is now widely accepted as a development and philanthropic organization.
