A data-transfer protocol that (a) is in the public domain, (b) permits protocol matching between systems, such as between data stations, computers, and networks, (c) detects errors introduced during transmission, and (d) causes retransmission until (i) the transmitted data are correctly received, (ii) error-free transmission
